Looking for the right vacuum cleaner?
There are so many to choose from but hopefully we can help you to narrow down those choices by comparing types, prices and brands. Above you will see links to the various types; upright bagged/upright bagless, cylinder bagged/cylinder bagless, cyclonic upright/cyclonic cylinder, robotic, wet & dry, animal, allergy and hand held. On the left of the page are links to a wide variety of brand names including Dyson, Electrolux, Hoover, Miele, Numatic, Panasonic, Sebo and Vax..
Uprights are better for large clear areas and for removing pet hair but not so good if you have stairs to clean. They can be noisier (high wattage can mean more noise) and are usually heavier, whereas cylinder vacuum cleaners are usually lighter, more reliable and good for cleaning under furniture and of course, stairs, but not so good at removing pet hair, though there are attachments which can deal with this. Storage is often easier for the upright models.
Bagged or Bagless ?
There is no difference in efficiency between bagged or bagless models. The benefits of the bagged vacuum cleaner are less dust escaping when emptying the machine, an obvious asset to allergy sufferers but, of course there is the added expensive of purchasing the bags. Remember that your machine will always work more efficiently when the bag or dust container is empty.
